How to replace the legs on a CRANKA Crab

If your Treble Hook Model Crab's legs become bent due to poor storage or heat deformation, you can normally easily fix them with the following steps. First, fill your kitchen sink with hot water from your hot tap, which should be around 60 degrees Celsius. Submerge your crab in the water for 30-60 seconds, then take it out and straighten the legs with your fingers. Allow the crab to cool, and the legs will retain their new shape. If you don't have access to a hot tap, you can use boiling water that has been cooled to a temperature you can place your hand in breifly and tolerate.

Be careful not to use water that is too hot, as it can cause the legs to shrink. If your crab has melted due to heat exposure, you can try the same method if the melting isn't too extensive. However, if the legs have melted excessively, you will need to replace them with the correct size replacement legs, which you can purchase from a CRANKA dealer or directly from the website.

To remove the legs from a Treble Hook Model Crab, hold the body with one hand and pull the legs rearwards until you hear the glue seal break. If the legs break off, use a heavy-duty darning needle to remove the remaining leg material from the body. Once the legs are fully removed, slide the new legs into the crab from the rear and apply a small drop of glue to keep them in place. Loctite 435 is recommended, but most superglues will work.

Note that the legs on your crab may melt from exposure to incompatible soft plastics or residues. Always store your crabs separately from other soft plastics to avoid this issue. If the legs do melt due to a chemical reaction, they cannot be fixed and will need to be replaced.

Changing legs on a Single Hook Model Crab is simpler because the legs are not glued into place. Check out the following link for instructions on how to remove the legs from a Single Hook Model Crab - How to change or replace components on a Single Hook Model Crab
