How do you store CRANKA Crabs?

Proper storage of Cranka Crabs is important to avoid bent legs. While we recommend keeping them in their original packets, we understand that many anglers prefer to store them in tackle trays. For the CR-50-THM model, the best storage method is using a Plano 3700 series tray arranged using the below method - this keeps them organized and prevents leg damage. Never store Cranka crabs with other soft plastic materials and avoid using pre-used tackle trays with residue from previously stored items such as elastech and TPE type products, like Z-Man. Direct sunlight should also be avoided to prevent melting of the soft plastic legs. Illustrated instructions are provided below for creating the perfect storage box using a Plano 3700 series or a Bass Pro Shops storage box.
CR-50-THM - Crab 50mm Treble Hook Model
For this storage box setup, we're using a Bass Pro Shops 3700 size storage box made by Plano - specifically, the Plano 3700 series tray is recommended.
Collect the spare divider inserts from the box and cut them with sharp kitchen scissors exactly as demonstrated in the illustration below.
Slide the bottom part of the cut divider inserts into the desired locations in your box and hook your crab onto the bottom of the divider using the treble hooks, as shown in the image below.
To prevent the crab from bouncing off the divider, place one of the smaller top sections that was cut off on top of the treble hooks. This secures the crab in place and prevents it from moving when the box is closed. Refer to the image below.
By using this storage method, your crabs will always be organized, easily accessible, and without any risk of leg damage from poor storage.
Note that you will need two boxes if you want to fill all the divider slots. An additional set of dividers will be needed to achieve this. See the image below for the layout of one box using the extra dividers from another box.
Refer to the video below for a quick and easy tutorial on how to create one of these storage boxes.
Slit foam fly boxes and lure wallets are other suitable storage options, especially for those who only need to store a few crabs (usually less than 10). However, larger slit foam fly boxes are also available on the market and can hold more than 10 crabs, making them a perfect option for some.
CR-65-THM – Crab 65mm Treble Hook Model
We are still searching for the appropriate tackle tray to store the 65mm Treble Hook Model Crab lure, as it requires larger compartment sizes to avoid bending the legs. Until we find a suitable solution, it is recommended to keep the lure in its original packaging or use a slit foam fly box or foam padded lure wallet that allows the crab to lay flat during storage. These storage options can generally hold only 6-10 lures, so storing excess lures in their packets is advised. Remember to store the crabs away from direct sunlight and other soft plastic materials to avoid melting the legs.
CRS-85 – Crab 85mm Single Hook Model
It is advised to store 85mm Single Hook Model Crabs in their original packaging until a suitable storage solution is found that can keep them flat and protected. Remember to keep the crabs away from direct sunlight and other soft plastic materials to avoid melting the legs and claws.
